Salamander 451

The animal symbol for the fire department 451 is a Salamander, which represents Hearth and Home; Family.
Their job is their Family and their society is based on all of them being cousins, therefore all are Family.
Their fire trucks are also called Salamanders.

Salamanders were also thought to be able to live in fire and could extinguish flames with their cold bodies. Pliny the Elder writes about this in his Natural History. He even threw one into a fire to test the stories.
