I've read that the music to this was 1964.

I think he meant that the movie was released to the general public in 1966-but was made in 1964. I saw the 1964 date too-probably Bruce Brown had trouble finding a distributor. I Don't know if this is true or not-but if the film was made in 1964-but not released until 1966-that explains it.
