WHY IS THIS FILM NOT ON THE TOP 250?!?!?!

As a kid who grew up immersed in the classic surfing culture and a kid who has met Robert August and surfed next to him in Cocoa Beach on several occasions, I can admit I have a bias above many others.

Yet I am also a film junkie, and this is one of the most innovative, funny and adventurous documentaries available on the current market. This is easily one of, if not the best, sports documentary ever made. It deserves a spot on the Coveted top 250.

Unfortunately, people are dumb. This is a classic movie, and an importnat one at that. I had never surfed before, but bought the DVD on a whim... One viewing immediately had an impression on me. Now it's a yearly thing. Every spring I watch it to get in the mood for summer. Great, great movie.

Would you believe it's in someone's Top 50 all time (#35):

Simple: Documentaries don't qualify for this list at all.

I'm interested in surfing myself (even though I'm far from being a good surfer), but I'm also a cinephile, and I think the former shouldn't affect the standards of the latter. Evevn though avid surfers love this documentary, it doesn't change the fact that this is, by all cineastic standards, not a great film.

As a cinephile, I think The Endless Summer is one of my top 100 or 200 favorite movies. I am unaware of any cineastic standards that this film does not meet. It's the feel-good story of the last 50 years. Nothing about their plan seems possible, and yet they execute it near-perfectly. They meet incredible people along their journey and everyone seems to just want to help them. It's a beautiful snapshot of the 1960s, a time which will forever be unique. You can go to those same surf spots today, but you won't see the same dictators, and far fewer beaches will be as undiscovered as they were then.

And it is extremely unconventional, as far as I know. I haven't seen any other documentary or fictional movie like this.
