shareIt is a reference to the "Flying Dutchman" pirate ship that was a cursed ship that was on a never ending journey. In the movie (play really) they are on a subway that goes round and round and round and never ending. Its the implications of a cursed nation (America), and how civil rights was a "round and round and round" system, espically in the 60's.
shareOr consider a slightly different reading of the Flying Dutchman legend: The cursed captain of a ghost ship is doomed to sail the seas for eternity -- or until he finds a woman who is willing to die for him.
Relate THAT to the play and film DUTCHMAN ... taking into account the imaginative inversions of American racial and gender politics.
