50 years old?

if you see the dvd cover for this movie it says 50th birthday deluxe edition?
How can it be 50 when it came out in 1966?

btw great movie

The book was originally published by Random House on Oct. 12th, 1957.

So, while the cartoon is only 40 years old, the book itself will be 50 years old next year, so the special edition DVD is out just in time for The Grinch's 50th birthday. :)

Hope that answers your question. :)

I too when I bought the DVD said to myself "WTF! 1966+50=2016??? Are they thinking I'm retarded or what. Then I realized that it is the book that has 50 years. But the thing is that it is only a promotion "50th anniversary" because what the DVD is celebrating is really the cartoon and not the book. This means that in 10 years, we will see a special "50th birthday Ultra-deluxe collector's edition" of the Grinch once again. It should've been a 40th birthday edition but I guess the "half-a-century" name is more of a saler, which is the only important thing I guess..."Hey, it's the 50th birthday edition...let's buy it! Thank god it is not a crappy 40th edition because I wouldn've buy it!"

Sorry, when you screw the pooch, take it like a man.

Point 1) The box says "anniversary", 1966 release.
Point 2) I was issued 10/13/57, one day after the book. I won't be 50 for nearly another full year.
Point 3) 1957 isn't mentioned anywhere on the box.

Somebody got stupid. $100 says there will be ANOTHER "50th anniversary".

I am going to buy because it will be a collector’s dream with that goof on it. Just think in 10 more years I can have another 50th anniversary.

Yeah, I noticed that to when I picked up my copy of the 50th Birthday edition at BestBuy today. I assumed they were talking about the books anniversary but it still looks odd. BestBuy is only charging $12.99 for it right now. Not bad considering it also has Horton Hears A Who! on the DVD + a bunch of other cool extras.
