English dub, or complete re-write?
What they did with the English dub is criminal, as it amounts to a complete re-write of the movie, changing the nature of Django's character entirely. For example, the scene where Django speaks to Maria in the room in the inn and she thanks him, in Italian she tells Django "only if it was just for a few moments you gave me the feeling of having a man at my side who could protect me...who could love me". Django's response "then we must make sure that the illusion is complete" is a classic line, and great writing. But the dub substitutes this with some tripe about Django making her "feel like a real woman".
That's only one of many examples of the dub completely re-writing the dialogue, and replacing great lines that establish Django's character with watered down, terribly written material that changes the nature of the film entirely. Compare Django's dialogue in the very next scene when he talks to the Saloon owner outside before the shootout. Two entirely different scenes, with the Italian dialogue making comments about racism that are entirely gutted in the dubbed version.
Do yourself a big favor and watch it with the original Italian soundtrack and subtitles. It's a far better movie that way, with Django's soul remaining intact.
