is it good & scary?

I'd say it's good, yes. Scary? Well, not by today's standards. I would say The Witches is a disquieting thriller with a neat detective story woven in with all the mystery. Joan Fontaine is great, but Kay Walsh steals the show. Still, it's Fontaine's movie, and she makes it shine.
