Tim,
I'm willing to respect anyone's opinion as long as they can back it up. So, with that in mind, how would you describe the over-acting in this film and can you provide any concrete examples?
Personally, I had no problem with any of the actors involved (male or female). For example, Blot needs to be a dramatic counter to Gu, so his methodology is more "rational" (he lets his talk back up his walk) than the impulsive nature of his adversary (who lets his actions to the talking). Blot and Gu are both men of action in their own way, but their approach (choices) to their respective characters needs to be as distinctly different as possible in order to get a more effective dichotomy.
As for the movie itself, its like a slow, simmering stew. It takes awhile to stir in all the necessary ingredients, but once everything is introduced its worth the wait!
peace,
david
