Like walking in someone else's shoes
I generally enjoy foreign movies, but this one irritated me from frame one with its pretentiousness, "art for art's sake," hypocritical digs at American involvement in Vietnam, and self-conscious affectations. The whispering, a long dialogue scene with nonstop pinball noise in the background, breaking of the fourth wall. Enough already.
Halfway through, I realized that this is how people who loathe foreign films must see foreign films. I've seldom had such an intense understanding of someone else's experience.
