SPOILER QUESTION

Was Heinzmann's death murder, suicide or an accident?

reply

I just saw this on TCM, and I had DVD'd it. I think it was a suicide.

reply

It wasn't suicide--look at how Adams (Roddy McDowall) and the truck driver looked at each other. It seems that it was a way to get rid of Peter (Hardy Kruger); I'm only guessing because he wasn't being very useful to the East Germans or Russians.

reply

If he wasn't very useful to the east, why would the west kill him? I mean, I can see why the west would not want to take a chance to take him in.

On the contrary he was sent West disguised as a defector but in fact he was going to spy for the East. One can but assume this was suspected and they chose to bump him off as a result.

It's really hard for me to remember back to October, but your reply seems to make sense to me. I enjoyed the story, but so much has happened since then! 😕
