No climax

Spoilers..

While I think this movie was above average, the ending was unusual for its kind of mild ending.

There were no real close calls, the police just did their routine job, they weren't even close to catching the crew. No hearbeating tension soundtrack. I was suprised that they got away so easily, I was waiting for something to happen.

With movies today, there are numerous 'close calls', where the baddies almost get caught or the good guys escape with their lives. In fact there is often more than 10 of these throughtout most crime movies, kind of overkill. This movie really had none of that, just the twist at the end where Coburn's woman he used and dumped inherited 7 mil.

"You sent us to guard the wrong man Mr. Chalmers."

I was waiting for something surprising to happen too.

BUT it didn't.

(And there was that little matter about the inheritance)

That was quite cool.

Just suffered through this dud. Not only was it totally boring, when something happened it was so phony. How does a wanted man walk into a police station disguised as a cop, and they take him at his word. They would have been well aware of any extradition process, not to mention that a simple call to the Australian consulate would verify things.
Btw, how long would that money last that many men? especially considering the lifestyle Coburn seemed to enjoy.

If you applied the same stone cold logic to any of the recent blockbusters, none of them would hold up either. Continuing with the Harrison Ford mentions, neither the Indiana Jones nor Star Wars sagas have any resemblance to reality. These are all movies. We are supposed to suspend belief and jump on for the ride.

Definitely, the relatively small amount of money the guys get is part of what makes it a dead heat. But then, in my straight world I do a lot more work for less money, and sleep with fewer groovy chicks. So it's not as much of an indictment of the criminal world as it might seem. I like a movie that every time it seems to have a meaning, it could mean something else. It's like life.
