Was the 'Dalekmania' surge over whent his came out?

I wondered if the is why there was never a sqeuel and it did not do well at the box office?

I remember as a child being crazy about Daleks from the start, seeing the first movie, collecting toys and even entering a competition to win a full sized Dalek (what my parents would have done if I'd won god knows).
For kids like me the fascination for Daleks lasted for most of the 60's but from what I remember by the time this movie came out that crazy nationwide 'Dalekmania' was on the wane somewhat.

is that why it didn't do very well at the box office?

Possibly, this and the first movie were basically cashing in on the Dalek craze and were nothing like the TV series. I think the film reviews at the time weren't very positive either.
Mind you, I saw it quite recently and quite enjoyed it even though it is a bit corny.

I liked it too, i also like the first one better than the william hartnell serial. its more compact.

I don't think the Dalekmania has ever ended. Even now if the Daleks show up in the TV series they get high viewership. As for this movie it isn't all that bad for what it's worth. True it isn't exactly cannon but it was a decent story.
