Please help my confusion and memory

I only became a fan of Doctor Who when the 2005 series began. Until yesterday, I did not know there were old Doctor Who movies. Didn't the Doctor "borrow" the Tardis during the Gallifrey war with the Daleks???? Then, why doesn't the Doctor know who the Daleks are in this movie? If he has the Tardis, he has to know the Daleks....correct?? Also, why does it sound like the Doctor built the Tardis himself, and, since the original season of Doctor Who had already aired, why does the inside of the Tardis look so different? Did something happen to the Tardis in the first series that caused the Doctor to have to rebuild it?

Perhaps this was supposed to be a total "stand alone" movie..???? Thank you very much!

The two Peter Cushing Dr Who films are stand alone films. In the films the Dr is a clever, if slightly odd inventor and not a Timelord. The two films do themselves though have a slight continuality between the two of them. With Dr Who first encountering (and destroying) the daleks in Dr Who and the Daleks. Then in Dalek Invasion Earth he travels thousands of years back in time to 2150 to stop the invasion of Earth.
