The difference between Ryunosuke's skill and Shimada's Skill

Half way into the movie, Ryunosuke visually realized that Shimada skills was greater than his,(during the ambush).

Ryunosuke skill can be described as being more tactically reactive while Shimada skill was more anticipative- having the skill to subtly influence the opponent to implement the wrong counter move, before executing the coup de grace.

I would like to hear what are your views on this comparison.
