Why so much hate for the ending?

I thought the ending was amazing.

Every time I think an ending is amazing, I go to imdb's message boards to see that most people hate it!!


Oh yes it's Laaarry Holmes/and the feeelin's right/Oh yes it's Laaarry Holmes/what a fight

Because it's abrupt and leaves a bunch of plot points unresolved?

In the trivia section someone has noted that it ends that way because this was supposed to be the first of a series of films based on a multi-part novel.
