great movie, bad ending

First off I would like to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. But in the final scene, he starts massacring people in a frenzy, downward spiral. And then it just freezes frame, and says "the end." Wtf? I know this is not supposed to be an action film, but I think it just got too "artsy" at the end.

I wanted to see the showdown with Shimada! And the fabled Tsuki thrust. Unless that was a red herring too.

I read that this was supposed to be a trilogy of films since it was based on a novel series. So I guess it was purposefully left on a cliffhanger to lead to the next film, which was never made. I really hope that was the reason for the ending, and not some asshat direction idea.

Well you read the trivia. Nobody would end a movie like this. Of course it was a cliffhanger but a pretty bad one at that. It was just way too abrupt and it is really disappointing. The end felt like kill bill, loved it, like you i wanted to see the showoff and a nice conclusion. Shame that there is no sequel

Yes, I too found the ending very unsatisfying. I didn't see any real character arc for him either. The madness that came onto him at the end was too abrupt. It was like they tried to give it a MacBeth type of plot line at the end. Too bad because it had a lot going for it. 😒
