Finally got a chance to see this exercise in brilliance. What an amazing film!! By far Polanski's best. Why is this not available on DVD in the US??!!!! Absolutely ridiculous. I urge any film lover to hunt an old VHS copy of this down. You won't be sorry and it will be worth the work.
Well yes I've just watched it...powerful atmosphere, great perfs, and a generally quirky, Polanski-esque kind of trip, but BEST FILM EVER MADE? Really? Can you tell me more as to why you feel this? I can't see it.
It's so nice to see this comments (I'm from Poland); I watched this film for the first time like 10 years and loved it-considered it since Polansky's best (his debut is also fantastic and very simillar to Cul-de-sac) but I forgot it and have been wanting for some time to come back to it. I just watched it today and laughed my ass off looking at the big guy (the funniest comedic performance I've seen).
A brilliant film that deserves more recognition. One of the very few films I've seen that, for me, gets better and better each time I see it. Get the R2 DVD since it comes with a great retrospective documentry and it also has both 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS audio options.
Liked this film too but there were few strange cuttings especially in the end. Like there was some material missing and the editor did his best to do what was left.
TBH I wasn't very impressed. I gave it a 6/10, and though there were some interesting parts, I can't really see what the director was going at. Can anyone tell me what the point was?
I couldn't stand it. I couldn't sit through a full viewing. I had to skip to the end. I guess the fact that I cared enough to at least watch the end says that it wasn't a complete failure, but it came close!
