P.S. - This is actually a repost from FG board (deleted long ago), and yet another one from Polanski's 'home page' (sadly, the events there are beyond words and *such* on topic threads vanish quickly). I apologize to all who already participated there. It would be really nice, if you could repeat the excercise here, in humble hope that this thread will be 'alive' a little longer. Thank you for your understanding.

Hello again,
thank you very much for your VERY kind double (or is it triple already?) effort. Much appreciated, as always.
I'm really really glad that we agree on Cul-de-Sac and The Tenant (being masterpieces)...plus 5 others. Kudos!

Thank you very much for your rates, miss. Much apprecited, as always (and especially if you had to 'repeat' this exercise from FG).

"Nóz w wodzie (Knife in the Water, 1962)* not seen all of, but from what I have, it is very good"

Yep, I would agree with that. It's an excellent film in my book. Make sure you'll see it one day (I know you will). Cheers!

Oliver Twist (2005)
The Pianist (2002)
The Ninth Gate (1999)
Death and the Maiden (1994)
Bitter Moon (1992)
Frantic (1988) - 7/10 The first half is excellent and really thrilling but it starts going downhill from there
Pirates (1986)
Tess (1979)
Le Locataire (The Tenant, 1976) - 10/10 Polanski is great at adding black humour to otherwise serious movies and this is the best example. It's surreal and thrilling but also wierdly funny at times.
Chinatown (1974) - 10/10 Excellent neo-noir and Polanski's best in my opinion
What? (1972)
The Tragedy of Macbeth (1971)
Rosemary's Baby (1968)
Dance of the Vampires (aka The Fearless Vampire Killers, 1967) - 6/10 One of Polanski's lesser movies but still a memorable film.
Cul-de-sac (1966) - 9.5/10 Extremely original and almost surreal in its wierd situations. One of my favorites.
Repulsion (1965) - 8.5/10
Nóz w wodzie (Knife in the Water, 1962)

Polanski is a great director and has made some of the most original movies ever. He should be getting a lot more recognition, in my opinion.

I can't rate films very well because I am a big, big Polanski fan and it's like comparing my favorite children (I have no kids btw, lol). But these are the Polanski films that I loved enough to buy on DVD, and would urge you to check out if you haven't already done so:

Knife in the Water
Repulsion
Cul-de-sac
Rosemary's Baby
Chinatown
The Tenant
Frantic

I am in the process of collecting a few more of his DVDs now.

damn, Criterion's got to release Cul-de-Sac, it's ridiculous how hard it is to find in the US. What? is also quite rare
