60's films

There are some films from the mid to late 60's that have dated so badly that they are now unwatchable and this is one of them.

I disagree completely. The time period is of so little importance here, it could be made in a very similar way today. It's a weird little movie with little relation to anything outside the actual setting. For me, examples of movies that aged really badly are Gone With The Wind or Rebel Without A Cause.

I disagree that Gone With The Wind has aged badly. It's a period piece and I was surprisingly swept up in the grandeur when I watched it recently. It had been a long time since I had scene it but it moves quickly, great cast, interesting story. It's a popular piece of film making that does what it sets out to do.

I do agree that time period is of little importance in Cul-de-sac.

reply

I agree. Many of them seem so self-consciously quirky for the sake of quirkiness. They may have seemed avant-garde back then. Fifty years later they can seem tedious.

Yeah! All films should look like they were made yesterday no matter how old they are.

I collect dead pigeons then I press them between the pages of a book.

"Mid to Late 60's" Oddly and pointlessly specific.

Unfortunately, stupidity never goes out of style.

reply

How is it "oddly and pointlessly specific"? The film is from that period, plus that era is very distinguishable in cinema, not shared by the early 60s or mid-70s (generally speaking).

reply

I wasn't a big fan of this film either. Definitely a chore to sit through.

I do really enjoy Repulsion (1965) though it also drags a little bit.
