What a stupid post. Watch it and make your mind up yourselves. There is a lot to recomended in Sellers performance. Sure it is dated, but it is a time capsule of a film. Make your own mind up and dignity will not be lost if you watch it (unless naked with a rubber sheep)

I totally agree, this movie is a hilarious underated film with Sellers, Mature, and the actor that plays the chief of police stealing the show! I saw it last night and laughed more than any sandler / carrey crap that comes out nowadays.

reply

I agree too - it's a great movie for any viewer, unless, perhaps, those who belong so completely to the MTV generation that they cannot cope with a plot that makes sense and takes a little time. Alright, it's not tremendously intellectual, but... see it and enjoy it.

This movie is one of the great comedy's of a great comedian. Watch peter sellers carefully and you cannot not laugh

reply

I really enjoyed the film - but that notwithstanding, it's silly to tell people not to see a film - let us make up our own minds.

Hey, backsteinie, that's a funny line you got: 'Those who BELONG completely to the MTV generation....' Ha! ha! ha! ha! I love it!!!

AFTER THE FOX is a very funny film! I am listening to the soundtrack CD and laughing out loud at the snippets of dialogue therein. Do yourself a favor and see this movie- it was a hoot forty years ago, and it still has the touch!!!

reply

This movie is hillarious! I love it.

Seller's imitation of an American tourist (asking for a pose from the waiter)at the restaurant is a scream. How about his discovery that the woman (aka, "bikini trap") he is trying to seduce is the sister of his contact in the fez? He completely changes his tune, revealing his double standard for women. It's hilarious!

The man was a genius, and I think he was better in this movie than in some of the Pink Panther movies.

As for the first post; this film may be too subtle for some.

reply

Yes, this was a very funny movie!

"Stick with me baby, and you'll be fartin' thru silk!"

reply

Don Aldo!

The most amazing thing about this film is when Sellers is being the movie director and he's making a film about NOTHING!!

There are so many funny scenes in this movie, here are just a few

1) The scene where Peter Sellers dresses up as a policeman and uses the power
of his uniform to jump the cinema queue.

2) The scene where Peter Sellers has his "Harlot! Starlet!" argument with Britt Ekland and when his mother tries to throw herself out of the window.

3) The scene where Victor Mature asks his agent to punch him in the stomach.

4) The Bingoli! scene where Peter Sellers is trying to find out where his sister Gina is but is constantly interrupted by the old women playing Bingoli.

5)The scene where Victor Matures hair dye runs.

6)The scene where The Fox is in Tony Powells hotel room and is trying to explain what his movie is about accompanied by music and sound effects
provided by his gang members.

7)The scene where The Fox exploits the vanity of the village policeman so that he can film without a permit.

Much of the humour in this movie arises from character and the actors performance rather than sight gags or amusing situations, It made me laugh when I was ten years old and it still makes me laugh now that I'm in my thirties but it obviously isn't everyones cup of tea.

Fabrizi: ...and you are running away

"Will the accused please stand"
The entire crowd stand up

After the bizarre shots from the movie is shown in the court room as evidence, one critic stands up and applauds - Bravo, it is brilliant. It is the greatest film to come out of Italy.

Interesting dig at the neo-realists, I thought.

Also, De Sica apparently used everyday people, non actors, to play most of the characters in "Bicycle Thieves". Hilarious to see De Sica sort of taking off on himself, here.

...it's alright, Ma, if I can't please him

Has it been 40 years? Mygod, it has, hasn't it.
I thought this to be one of Sellers' best when I saw it in the theater back then and I still think it to be so. Although he's done more important and more critically acclaimed films, when I think of Peter Sellers I think of this movie.

reply

Agreed with everyone except the idiot first poster - this film is brilliant.
Sellers' fight with his sister "She never misses!" is one of my favourite moments, as is the way the 'crew' are tossing the lights around on set like they are styrofoam.
A gem - must be seen (in double bill with The Party)

Contraceptives should be used on every conceivable occasion
