Is it true there is a RE-MAKE in the works of After the Fox?

I've been hearing this rumor for the past year....

...Anyone else have any news on yet another CLASSIC comedy that Hollywood should leave alone! (Case in point---"The Out-of-Towners" another Neil Simon gem that they totally RUINED with its $40---50 MILLION dollar+ make-over!

After The Fox should be RE-RELEASED! AS IT IS!

On a Double Bill with Dr. Strangelove....TWO of Peter Sellers finest performances EVER!

Anyone have any news of the lame re-make some idea-less Producer is toying with?

Please Hollywood....LEAVE THESE GEMS ALONE!

What next? A Re-Make of "Some Like it Hot"?

What the hell difference could it possibly make if they remake it? If you don't want to see it, or just decide it sucks before it's even made, that's your problem, don't go see it. Last I checked, people where allowed to pretty much do whatever they felt like with their money.

Re-release it? Yeah, there's a good idea for you. People just flock to forty year old movies they can rent.

Is nothing sacred! How can they think that any present day comedy actor is big enough to fill Peter Sellers shoes. Steve Martin's Clouseau stinks! Just think what a hash Hollywood has made of trying to remake "The Ladykillers" and "The Italian Job", there ought to be a law against remaking great movies.

reply

I resent the suggestion that Coen brothers = Hollywood. Also, while their version of The Ladykillers wasn't really successful, it's at least an honest misfire that brings enough new ideas to the table and has a whole different flavour from the original.

I never really understood peoples intense dislike for remakes other than they display a lack of originality and tend to be a waste of resources that could be put to better use.

Does a remake take anything away from the original film? Does a remake make the original film worse? With the release of a remake does that mean we are not allowed to view the original film any longer? Are we marched to theaters and forced to watch remakes of films we hold so near and dear to our hearts?

Below is a handful of remakes I've avoided because A) I enjoy the original film immensely and B) I heard the remake was el stinko, which, in no way, effects my enjoyment of the original film(s).

1. Invasion (2007) - I've seen both previous Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956 & 1978) and enjoyed both.

2. Planet of the Apes (2001) - original 1968

3. Taking of Pelham 123 (2009) - original 1974

4. Psycho (1998) - original 1960

5. The Wickerman (2006) - original 1973

6. Pink Panther (2006) - original 1963

The Pink Panther 2006, while indeed a rather poor film, is hardly a remake though as the story bares next to no similarity to the 1963 movie.
