I guess it's just a generational thing??

I can be 100% certain that my grandfather would have laughed for the entire movie! I on the other hand, thought it was very bad comedy. Maybe if I hadn't been exposed to modern comedy etc., I would not have been checking to see when it was over every 3 min. I certainly mean no disrespect to any of the stars in it, or any who adore this film. I just find it interesting how different age groups don't understand other's comedy. My dad put it simply; "Your Papaw thinks Johnny Carson was funny, I don't. I think David Letterman is funny, and you don't. I don't like Conan O'Brian, and you do." It's just interesting to me. Now war movies, that's a different story. Both of my grandfathers, my dad, and I, could sit all day happily watching WWII movies.

You have good insight on the issue. This movie was more about the stars that were in it, rather than the movie. I am 58 yo, and i don't recall this being a popular movie at all.

By today's standards, this is "quaint".

Nice to read you can enjoy WWII movies with your father and grandfather.

Today's "standards"! That phrase always makes me laugh!
