Question About The Real Story?

A relative of mine remembers hearing that after Elsa was set free, there was an incident where either George or Joy was seriously mauled be the lion, or killed. But I don't know enough about the real story. Does anyone know if this is true?

I know the film is based on a true story and it is a wonderful movie! I look forward to seeing it again on TCM. Thanks for your help.

Sadly on August 20, 1989 George Adamson was murdered in Kenya, East Africa by Somalian bandits when he went to the rescue of his assistant and a young European tourist in the Kora National Park. He is buried in the Kora National Park near to his brother Terrance, Super Cub and his beloved lion friend Boy

On 3 January 1980, in Shaba National Reserve in Kenya, Joy Adamson's body was discovered by her assistant, Peter Morson (sometimes reported as Pieter Mawson). He mistakenly assumed that she had been killed by a lion, and this was what was initially reported by the media. Her two former husbands as well as George were alive at the time of her death; Von Klarwill and George Adamson came to the memorial service, but Bally preferred to keep his feelings private and said his goodbyes at the mortuary.

Further police investigation found that Adamson's wounds were too sharp and bloodless to have been caused by an animal, and concluded that she was murdered with a sharp instrument. Paul Nakware Ekai, a discharged labourer formerly employed by Adamson, was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison, escaping capital punishment by hanging because the judge ruled that he was a minor when the crime was committed.

OMG that is devastating! May they both R.I.P. As a memorial to their love and support of animals, I love Born Free even more now! Thank you George and Joy for all you have done.

That is terrible and awful! Somehow I had missed hearing of their untimely deaths before, but I did hear that George Adamson was mauled by a lion after separating from Joy, but survived.

There are a lot of white people that are just as violent. Wouldn't you agree?

Wow! posted this 2 yrs ago, quick response retard! Perfect timing though, as law enforcement stands down due to lack of support via disgusting media coverage, etc. Blacks are murdering each other like no time in history! Convince yourself otherwise, obviously you have brainwashed left & pc, our civilizations downfall > PC

My God. I had no idea both of them were murdered and 9 years apart too. That's so sad.

Yes, like the others have said, both Joy and George were murdered in real life, though several years apart.

But years before that, there was an incident were George was attacked by one of his lions and ended up in hospital. But it was not Elsa; the lion that attacked him was the one named Boy.
