'People like to see soldiers shot in the right places..'

"People like to see soldiers shot in the right places.." - James Mason's line at headquarters about Stachel's wound is a brilliant line. But it's a paraphrase of a famous line from something else. Something like ".. one should be seen in all the right places..." Where does the original line come from? Sounds like Noel Coward?

Watching this movie again. It is rather extremely well done. Beautiful skies. Beautiful dark blues. Threatening.

The destructiveness of artillery in particular combined with improved medical care meant soldiers were surviving with terrible wounds, including facial mutilations. In France they were called the gueules cassees. Such wounds were not conducive to civilian morale and it was rumoured they were shut up in special wings of hospitals.
