What was the deal with that bat? (spoilers)

When Billy impales Dracula at the end of the movie, there is a bat that exits the cave and settles onto the desert floor. What is this supposed to be, the spirit of the vampire leaving him? Or an actual bat that was in the cave? I found that part confusing.

Seems to signify that Dracula is survives.

Yeah, you can't kill Dracula; Buffy vs Dracula proved that.
