They could have stuck it to them more

I have always loved this movie. It has a great plot, great actors and one of the most beautiful women ever in Joanna Woodward.

The one thing that was interesting was the way that the game ended as it did. Henry Drummond told her that the pot was going to get bigger and bigger and bigger. However, when Ballinger came in and gave her the credit, he had her raise it $5000. If he had raised it a few hundred, the othes would have called and raised and on and on until the pot was much bigger. But, because the raise was so large, they cut the game off a little sooner than they should have.

Well, I guess that they had to end the movie sooner or later or it could have gone on for hours! lol

I think you missed the point. She most likely didn't have a large hand and the whole act was a bluff to scare everybody out of calling her raise.

THe point is that the conspirators couldn't let the hand come to a showdown with Woodward showing a straight flush and everyone else also having great hands, because then the players would suspect they were cheated on the deal.

And it wouldn't have mattered if Ballinger had raised a smaller amouht. He had such a reputaiont as a tightwad that any participation in the game would convince the players that Woodward's hand was unbeatable.
