First time a movie has replied to something i've said (SPOILER)

I think this is a fantastic film! Very much the british equivalant of The Graduate. Not in a sense of the same story but a similar feel of uneasyness towards the protagonist.
Anyhow, when I was watching this film I got to the bit where Alfie takes that guy's wife home (The one in hospital) and instead goes down the river for a romantic afternoon with her. As he kissed her I said alloud. "Alfie your a F#$KING peace of S#*T!". To my surprise Alfie looked up from the kiss then looked at me within a split second of me voicing my thought and Said something like "It don't matter if nobody knows". F#$KING BRILLIANT! What a masterstroke, the film maker anticipated my thoughts and attempted to Justify them on a personal basis. I've seen a lot of films and never to this day have I ever had a moment of connection like that with a character/scene.

Agreed. The writing and directing are incredibly clever and skillful. So's the acting. Movies this good are rare.

agreed a lot of the British New-wave films just appeared intelligent and thoughtful (Darling, I'm looking at you.) But this one was very clever.

This is gonna sound so lame compared to the awesome ALFIE story you've got, but something similar happened to me with another film and it made me smile like crazy at the time.

Remember near the end of NOT ANOTHER TEEN MOVIE (hey, I was like 13 at the time, gimme a break) when the Jock character punches his ex-girlfriend and the guy she's having sex with and the guy filming them? Well the "bag from American Beauty" was still floating around and I said "punch the balloon!!!" and he did and then said "I don't know why I did that" and my buddy who was watching it with me said "cause he (pointing at me) told you too".

Not nearly as cool or signifigant (or about as nearly as good a film) but still, a lot of fun.
