imagine Robert Redford in this role
I think this movie would have probably put him into super star status. What do you think?

shareAs Jacaranda said, Redford is indeed American and I doubt Redford could pull off that accent (dialect) very well.
Michael Caine was absolutely perfect for this part.
BTW, they did make a re-make of ALFIE later on with JUDE LAW. Anyhow, Jude was good as ALFIE, but Michael was much much better than Law, imho.

I can't imagine anyone else playing Alfie than Maurice Joseph Micklewhite (Michael Caine). I have enjoyed Michael Caine since I was 17.
