Is he a 'better' person at the end? SPOILERS

He's apparently found the abortion genuinely harrowing and been dumped by Ruby, who he was supposedly considering settling down with. But, at the end, he arranges to see the married woman we'd seen him with at the beginning and seems to be going straight back to his old routine.

Well, with his final line of "What's it all about?", he's at least questioning his existence and lifestyle.

I think he's somewhat better, the chatting up of Siddie is the old adage bounce back quick.
He caused a lot of pain but ultimately received quite a bit too. One can only emphasise with pain one has felt.
Mkind you, once he got his confidence back he might well turn out to be just as bad.

I agree with poster CK-1-5...But even after ALFIE finished questioning his existence, I bet he goes back to his old ways. His pattern of how he treated women was so ingrained in his system, that I doubt Alfie would ever break away from that life pattern.

I don't think so. He is afraid to see himself as he really is. Sure, he misses his kid, Lily's abortion really shook him, but he always thinks about himself. He never tries to have the forgiveness of the women he treated badly or does he really try to make a real change in his life. He goes off with the married lady in the end (if she will have him back)not thinking about how things will develop between them or if he will hurt her. He got two women pregnant and he doesn't seem to realize that it may happen again. And after Ruby told him that she wants younger men, he will probably sleep with a lot of women to validate himself.

I just hope he didn't forget to feed that little dog.

By the end he has grown a little wiser and is at least questioning some of his road. That he doesn't make a full 180 is good; it's a lot more believable. People don't change overnight.
