The German journalists / Rescue of the film makers

Does anyone know what happened to the German journalists that landed in the plane before the Italian film crew and were dragged out and their plane set on fire?

And also does anyone know what the miracle was that saved the filmmakers when they were dragged out of their car and put against the wall when they were covering the murder of Muslims in Dar-es-Salaam?
