Patricia Neal

It was after the first day of filming on this in 1965 that Pat suffered her massive strokes which led to her replacement by Anne Bancroft. Wonder if any footage exists.

I would think so but maybe fords family doesn't want it to surface because people will think she had the strokes on purpose to get out of the film. as he was notoriously tough on actresses. may she rest in peace

"why are you married to him then if you can't work with him how do you live with him?"

How exactly does one have massive strokes 'on purpose'? It's not like she said she had a headache. Tests can easily show whether or not someone had a stroke; at least today they can. I don't know about 1966.

A massive stroke would have left her with obvious after effects like paralysis, slurred speech, loss in brain function, etc. I don't think people can really make something like that up.

In either case, that role called for a bawdy broad and both actresses, Neal and Bancroft, seem to be that type.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]
