I bought the First box set, and I loved it, I grew up watching Ultraman in Michigan on WXON Channel 20, this certanly brings back memories, I seem to like the Japanese ( Original ) version of Ultraman a little bit better, by selecting the Japanese language, then selecting the English Subtitles!, the Japanese version is alot more descriptive, and less corny, but it does have it's funny moments!

I had a lot of deja-vu feelings as I watched Series 1: Volume 1! One thing I found alarming at first: Not all of the footage on the English language track was in English. The only thing I can think of is the footage still in Japanese may have been edited out for the American broadcasts, and never dubbed into English. At any rate, this was a fun flashback from childhood!

No, the original English soundtracks are complete and uncut (except for one small cut at the end of Episode 36, "Gift from the Sky," where a bird craps on Arashi's shoulder).

FYI, this DVD release is not legit. This was distributed to BCI by Chaiyo Productions, a Thai company that Tsuburaya Productions is having a legal battle with to this day since the late 90s. According to a recent ruling in Tokyo, Chaiyo does not have video rights outside Japan (only in Thailand), but they do have the ancillary merchandising rights to the first 6 Ultra Series outside of Japan (toys, etc.). Even if Tsuburaya has the video rights, they won't release it here, partly because it could destroy their credibility in the case (their lawyera are working in their best interests). Tsuburaya holds on to not only tons of extra material, but the complete US versions, the materials for which they obtained from a warehouse in 1997.

But since neither Chaiyo nor BCI had any of the master materials, they used Panasonic's R2 DVD releases (which they shouldn't have done), the Volume 1 VHS release from the late 90s, and old edited TV recordings.

Personally, I'm very, very angry about this release, and I'm not buying it at all. This release is undermining Tsuburaya and their efforts in trying to market the whole Ultra Series here. (Yes, they do care.)

DIE, CHAIYO, DIE!!!
