I liked the Sergeant in 'Go-Go Gophers' he was really a good guy.

In the Gophers cartoon the Sergeant was always the calm voice of reason trying to convince the arrogant Colonel Kit Coyote to leave the Gophers be, proving that he was just a poor dupe unhappily following orders.

As a kid I delighted in watching him break the fourth wall at the end of every episode after the Colonel would come a cropper at the hands of the Gophers and say to the audience "Well, looks like the Gophers won again! Y'all be watching our next episode. Bye now!"

It always said to me that he was secretly glad the Gophers won.

The Colonel and the Sergeant were allegedly based on Henry Fonda and John Wayne's characters in 'Fort Apache' as the arrogant Commander who refused advice from his Captain and brought disaster down on himself and his men by vexing the Indians.
