Why was Dennis Hopper canned from the Pilot?

I caught a screen-grab of him in an early scene after JD lands on the deack of te Titanic and meets Althea for the first time. We see Hopper in the distance waiting for his chance with Althea.

Can anyone guess as to WHY Dennis Hopper was cut out of -- is not credited for 'Rendezvous with Yesterday'?

Never noticed that, but just a guess: The pilot was already too long, and if there were a sub-plot or even a scene of any length involving him, it may have been cut to save time. The final cut of the pilot was so long that it had to be shortened by several minutes to turn it into episode 1.

Yes, I did hear about time considerations. But I've also heard that Irwin Allen was not happy with Dennis Hopper's interpretation of a British accent and so that's why Hopper was dropped. His character was named 'Tabor' and was supposed to be Althea's suitor. She obviously becomes smitten with Tony Newman and Tabor becomes jealous. I have seen a wardrobe sketch of the 'Tabor' character wearing women's clothing indicating that Hopper's character was supposed to be one of those cowardly Titanic male passengers that dressed as a woman in order to escape the disaster.

Too bad that footage was cut....we may never know how Dennis Hopper handled his scenes.
