Watching this again on the weekend I can't help but think this is where Cowboys And Aliens might have been influenced from.

Are you sure you're not thinking of "Visitors from Beyond the Stars?" That's the one where the aliens arrive in the old West. In "Raiders From Outer Space", they invade Khartoum, a desert area.
As for "Visitors" being the inspiration for COWBOYS AND ALIENS, it's certainly possible. That was the first example I was aware of combining the concepts of space aliens with the Old West. I think someone already mentioned this in an earlier thread.

And yeah there was that other episode too. Maybe both episodes served as some kind of influence.
