Lew was the funniest

Just saw the ME-TV presentation of this series this morning. It was the episode where Don and Ann spend the weekend in Brewster at Ann's parents' home. The emphasis was conflicts between Don and Lew, over the best route to get there, how to pronounce "awry" and more, culminating in a fender-bender between...you know who.

To me this was one of the funniest episodes in the series. And thinking back to other episodes, I got to thinking how many of the funniest episodes featured Ann's father. Of course he was annoying and couldn't have been the star of the series without his personality being changed significantly. But he sure carried the humor in the episodes where he was featured.

I wonder if the creators of the King of Queens didn't have some memory of Lew Marie when they came up with Arthur for their series. Perhaps thinking..."Let's have our father-in-law be like Ann's father, only crazier...And we'll not have him frequently guest from his home in a nearby city, but he'll live with our two stars so he can drive them nuts almost daily!"

I couldn't stand her father, he was annoying and it was so ridiculous that he treated both Ann and Don like they were teen-agers that couldn't be trusted.

Me too. I despised him. He was so unpleasant. He made Mr Mooney from the Lucy show seem downright lovable by comparison.

I agree! I even remember watching this as a kid and couldn't stand him. His arrogance, suffocating nature and constant belittling of Donald was so overdone. Found him irritating, not at all amusing.

I agree. I could not stand the father. If they threw in more episodes with just the mother or the mother with the father, I could stand him a little more. But he was way too overbearing.

I thought he was awful. And honestly, felt the same way about Arthur. Shouting and arrogance is not funny, just annoying!
