when Ann did jury duty on a wife beating case..the whole thing played for laughs, (the wife, who's missing teeth from the first beating, is portrayed as a nag) right up to the end where her husband belts her in the mouth one more time with an ashtray...just horrible
shareYes, especially since Marlo Thomas has talked about getting letters from young women trapped in horrible situations and asking for her help. She said she had her assistants come up with hotline phone numbers to give the women. Makes you wonder why she agreed to do this episode. Even if the wife was a horrible nag, physical violence is never the answer - even played for "laughs".

The season 4 opening episodes where she goes undercover as a seamstress in a sweatshop made me cringe as well. They played it like they treated the workers really well and even after she was caught, they made a point to "settle up" with her. I really doubt those sweatshops were all that pleasant and fair.
