T.H.E. Cat on video

Does anyone know if or where I can find this series on DVD or video? Let me know at: [email protected]

reply

Unfortunately, I do not know how to obtain those great shows on video, but if you find out, PLEASE let me know, also. I would love to have them. My e-mail is: [email protected]. THANKS!!!

reply

Yes. It really surprises me that this classic series of T.H.E. Cat isn't on video VHS or DVD and not even seen on TV in reruns on any station, cable or antenna. Please let me know too if and when this show does come on video.

reply

I, too, am surprised this wonderful series isn't on DVD. I have the entire series on VHS. I bought it on eBay a few years ago, and I checked just before posting this and I see two different sellers offering the full series for sale right now. I have nothing to do with those sales, nor do I know anything about the sellers, I am just passing along some info to help out fellow fans.

I have the set on VHS. I bought it a few years ago from someone who had a THE Cat web site up. The quality is not the best, but the memories are there, which is why I bought it in the first place.
My source said the US copies of the CAT show were tossed into the dumpster to make room for new shows, but the Canadian tapes were not destroyed. My source (Wish I could remember his name!) bought the Canadian tapes and put them on VHS. I paid $80 for the set, and I'm glad I did.
Now, if anybody knows where I could find a knife that fits on the left forearm and delivers itself into your hand, everything would be complete!

Iwantthatondvd.com allegedly has a set on Dvd for 80 dollars
along with the pilot. I can't vouch for them since I never
bought anything from there, everythings too overpriced, but
might be worth a look.

I ordered the complete series on dvd last week and received it, on 7 discs, very quickly. Included on the first disc were both versions of the pilot episode - the unaired, black & white version, and the one in color. The picture quality and editing are first-rate...there'll be the odd scratch here and there, but certainly no worse than many older films and shows that you see on t.v.

I've lost the website address from which I bought the dvd's, but I've emailed the company, requesting a link. If you want to email them yourself, they're at [email protected]

reply

The website is http://www.yesteryeardvd.com

It cost me $84.95 + $8.10 for shipping, and like I mentioned before, the quality is great. I have zero complaints, and will be checking out their other listings in the future, I'm sure, for those otherwise unobtainable shows.

reply

Hey, God--if I may call you that, they don't show 'Cat' as available. I emailed them about it.
I'm THRILLED, tho, that they have 'The Equalizer', in its entirety. A show that ran that long should've BEEN released on video long ago. So many great NYC actors were on it.

Correction, Godwulf. They listed T.H.E. Cat alphabetically , under 'C'--for Cat--as tho T.H.E. was 'the'--rather than his initials. Nitwits.

I'm guessing that they used a sorting subroutine rather than having a person do it. And the subroutine was set to "ignore" words like "The", "And" "A" and probably "Its"

sigh, to show you how into the show MY family was--when our cat had kittens and one of them was a black tom, we named the cat T.H.E. Cat (usually called just T.H.) then many years later I got another one and named HIM T.H.E. Jr. :o)

reply

Following is from the yesteryeardvd.com website under the "T" listings:

Yes, we know T.H.E. is the name of Robert Loggia's character. However, we still have this listed under "C" for Cat

Guess they read the imdb message boards, too...!

reply

I found that out also; I just completed the order. However, they are helpful in their listing, though; maybe because something was said to them. In the "T" listing, there is a note stating that "T.H.E. Cat" is in the "C" listing.

Thank s for the post. I still remember being about7 years old and watching the show on NBC. Back then Robert Loggia was the coolest guy on television. It all seemed to come so natural to him. Like many otyhers on these posts he was the man I wanted to grow up to be like. Cool show. Thanks again, Rich

You just triggered a memory in me. I started wearing black turtlenecks because of this show. I'd forgotten that.

I will be purchasing the DVD set. Thanks.

There are a couple of users on the internet who are trading the same 7 DVD set for free provided you have something to offer in exchange. It's worth a try if you don't want to fork the price other users are asking for it.

It's a copy of some previous compilation onto unlabeled disks, but the entire series is there along with the pilot episode and a promo. Episodes are clearly labeled with page breaks throughout. No skips or garbled digital output. The quality of the film, however, is poor-to-middling, with weird color representation as well as some episodes in black and white.... I'm curious to know if anyone who purchased the series from yesteryeardvd.com also had B/W shows mixed in with the color, or if they were all in color.

reply

Yes, there are black-and-white episodes mixed in with color ones. I was wondering about that. I was unaware that any were done in color, because my mom and dad did not own a color television when that show was on the air 1966-1967.

There are several sellers with it on IOffer. I just got mine in the mail today and am watching the b/w copy of the pilot as we speak.

Hey, good website for contributing to good deeds (and wow, the videos are free to cancer patients). Thanks for this info, Noah. Meanwhile, I notice that the earlier seller I mentioned (Skaryguy) now offers the 6-DVD set for $30 total:

Just to re-update: Don't expect good quality on these films. It's a damn good thing they weren't lost altogether (hats off to whomever rescued them from the Canadian trash bin), but some of them are in poor condition. Still, watchable is watchable, whatever the shape.

I can remember them through the eyes of my child-self, even while watching them as an adult. Sure, some of the dialog is corny, but the theme of accepting marginalized people was ahead of its time. The jazz is also fine, and Loggia..... ahh, Loggia was a wonder. Such grace.
