Space Seed Observation

It looks like we are behind Star Trek's projection of what the near future is supposed to be. After the landing party boards the Botany Bay McGivers observes a change that occurred in 2018 which reduced the need for sleeper ships. I wonder if that was a hint that warp drive was supposed to have occurred by then or something else that was substantially ahead of chemical rocket propulsion. Remember that the events of First Contact were not in play while the timeline of the original series was being laid out. I have not seen a fair amount of Star Trek : Enterprise so I don't know if they addressed the Eugenics era or WWIII in passing.

Yeah, im still waiting for warp drive and transporters.

On the other hand were a little ahead of schedule in a few areas. Remember in "Miri", where McCoy had them beam down a portable computer that couldnt do anything but simple mathematics? Slowly? Your telephone has a million times more calculating power, if fact, a smartphone can do most of the things the Enterprise's supercomputer could do.
