shareI gave it a 9. I'll stand by that. Great acting, solid writing, good tension and this where Spock uses his mind meld for the 1st time. Morgan Woodward, who played Simon Van Gelder, said it was the toughest acting job he ever had. On a guy note, Marianna Hill, who played Dr.Helen Noel, is absolutely beautiful.
Spenser with an "S", like the poet.
Perfect description
shareShe played Fredo's wife in GODFATHER II
shareShe also was the woman Clint Eastwood rapes when he 1st comes into town in the movie, High Plains Drifter.

I haven't seen that, but she was 7 years older then. Was she still hot?
shareI thought she (Hill) was still quite attractive, though her character was not as likeable (kind of the town tramp). She had blonde hair in the movie as well, which I don't think looks as good on her as brown/brunette did.
Verna Bloom, later to be known as Dean Wormer's wife in Animal House, is also in HPD (which is one of my all-time favorite westerns, btw).
Personally, it's one of my favorite episodes. I give it a 8 out of 10, when I compare it to the Franchise, and 7 out of 10 overall.
To me, this episode is about the possibility of technology to manipulate minds on a subconscious level, and if it is possible, and it is (believe me, I personally know), they will do it, even if for the best of intentions, which is a clear indicator to stop and personally execute such people from implementing their plans, because, odds are, you'll save a whole lot more lives shooting these people than you will lose. We call these people, like Dr. Adams, liberals, because they have no constraint, moral or otherwise, on their behavior, and they think that by virtue of their knowledge they know better. They need execution more than anyone today, because these people are like chimps who've been given a machine gun!
Education was supposed to impart WISDOM; what good is knowledge in the hands of an idiot except destruction? When you have a society that doesn't believe in Truth, this is the kind of thing you get.
Did you ever see the series Dollhouse? If not, you should.
shareWith election day less than a month a way it is never too early to double check what you want going out on the internet. If Clinton gets elected and it is looking more probable as time moves on then a person needs to be concerned about state sponsored censorship on sites such as this one. I am no Clinton fan but if I thought I had a real say so in her misdeeds but I would make sure she had an unbiased trial and then let that result dictate a punishment.

You need to be listening to both sides objectively versus having selective hearing and worrying about your political team. I'm not a Trump fan but I would say he is full of bluster and would have advisors to help him make decisions. Clinton is cold and calculating and do whatever she desires and her advisors be damned if they think otherwise. Clinton probably does not take her accusations of a "vast right wing conspiracy" seriously in private but I do not doubt that she sees enemies in many places in her mind and that includes people in her own party. The FBI was a great agency when used ethically regardless of who was in the White House for many years but now we can see it is compromised. A President who sees enemies everywhere and has access to a corrupted law agency will no doubt lead to abuse and censorship of average citizens. Just a few years ago I would have laughed off any notion of Chelsea Clinton becoming POTUS in the future but if one person has that much power as HRC appears to have in Washington the probability of CC being next POTUS is definitely greater than zero.
shareIn isolation, some of what you say makes sense. But you are obviously unaware of J Edgar Hoover.

Dr. Adams was very realistic and a REAL THREAT. Pretty scary guy as he seems normal but secretly sinister.
shareGreat episode. I'd give it an 8.
I have a psychology background, so an episode dealing with the intrigue of the mind appealed to me a great deal. The mind meld also fascinated me.
The Van Gelder character was really outstanding. He converyed the character perfectly, exhibiting the symptoms of mental unbalance, so the audience never knew whether he was completely sane or not.
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Marianna Hill. Ouch.
