Cpt. Kirk's fighting style

I was thinking back when I was a kid and when you and your buddies fool around and wrestle with each other. I remember trying Kirk's moves and every time I got my ass handed to me. So, after a couple of times, I stop doing that!
Although the Vulcan neck pinch work pretty good. Didn't knock anybody out, but put them to their knees.
I can recommend Spock's moves but not Kirk's. Unless of course you're hitting on a woman.

reply

Yeah. Wjat would you call that fighting style? It's like sort of Karate mixed in with a little saloon brawl. Plus, you're always gonna come out with at least a cut lip and a ripped shirt.

reply

Yeah. What would you call that fighting style?

We used to call it "Kirk Fu," and it seems to involve a lot of rolling around, a few sharp, quick punches, and occasionally the fearsome Kirk Butt Slam.

There is an episode of Big Bang Theory in which Adam Nimoy is interviewing Sheldon, who describes his attempts to use the Vulcan neck pinch on one of his childhood tormentors. It was, shall we say, less than completely effective.

The Jim West fighting style, which involved a lot of swinging on chandeliers and the more traditional Western haymaker punches, was easier to emulate and probably more effective than Kirk Fu.

A much much earlier post said that 1960's censors insisted that the TOS stunt coordinators come up w/ a form of harmless hand-hand combat! When Kirk "kicks" the blue guy w/ the antennae (Land of Babyl) u c he kicks the wall, instead!

Although Jim West, Palladin, The Big Valley, Marshall Dillon, any other westerns, Man From Uncle, c/d throw haymakers, karate chopps, etc.

Hey timmy, what's up with this 'xx/xx' all of a sudden?

reply

Timmy has his own brand of iSpeak

C my reply.

C my reply.

reply

Kirk Fu, I love it. Although when I tried it I was more like Jerk Fu.

Maybe he studied at the Shat Lin Temple with Kwai Chang.... I got nothing.

From Master KAAAAANNNNNN!

Ah, Kirkhopper.

reply

Ah, Kirkhopper.

...I was more like Jerk Fu.

Isn't that what the kids were doing in And the Children Shall Lead to summon Gorgon?

reply

Chris 109, Cind 5, Kerry E. Davis; I picked it up from another TOS IMDB poster! I.e. would=w/d, could=c/d, should=s/d.

reply

Oh, sorry I'm so late guys! OH, with=w/. But that's old shorthand.

When I was a kid, I once tried the "double-fist smash" move Kirk (and later Worf) used in a few eps. Doesn't work for spit in a real fight, I'll tell you that for nothing!

I am still curious to try Shatner's "Leaping Butt Strike" he uses on the fake Andorian in Journey to Babel. That one's GOT to work!

reply

No it doesn't work. Unless when you're leaping you by the fake Andorian you fart, then you can knock him out. Or at least I could. It's more deadly than Kirk-Fu.

reply

I think Sisko and Kira used it too.

reply

He used some judo throws.

reply

The Shat's fighting style might have been more impressive had he not have such obvious stuntmen doing all the hard work.

reply

My brothers and I didn't do any Kirk moves that I can recall, though we used to do the Buck Rodgers roundhouse kick a lot. The one thing of Kirk's we did, however, was that backward jump and look he always did when someone was trying to cut him in half with a sword or scimitar. I always tried to run like him, too. 😃

No blah, blah, blah!

You mean that slo-mo running from The Empath?

I don't recall that scene, but I was referring to the way he looked when he ran. It didn't matter if he was the fastest or not, he always appeared like he was. One of William Shatner's many super powers. 😀

No blah, blah, blah!

When I've seen him running in The Empath, I can only think of this from Bugs Bunny:
