Theme Music

thats what I remember about the show the most..the music and the opening credits showing the jeeps going over sand dunes with the .50 M2's in the back firing....how cool was that..years later when I was in the USMC we had them in the back of jeeps and on top of HumVees...we all referenced Rat Patrol :0)

The memorable main theme, as well as the additional themes and incidental and cue music used in "The Rat Patrol" were all composed by Dominic Frontiere.

I'd love to see a CD release of all the original "The Rat Patrol" music. It was great.

I think if you timed all the music in "The Rat Patrol" it would only add up to around 15 minutes of music, if that. You'd need a CD of other music Frontiere did for TV, such as "The Outer Limits."

can still remember this show's theme note for note...only about 35 years later (l.o.l.)
dominic frontiere, eh? did the "outer limits" theme also? wow. have to check out his other credits.
but, this show's main theme is one of my 5 all-time favourites. love to get the series on dvd one day.
you'd think that somebody like the action channel, or even nickolodeon, would rerun this series some time...

You would think networks that specialize in old shows would be interested. But, with TV Land producing new shows (why would I want to watch a new show on an old show network?), SciFi carrying ECW wrestling, AMC having a new episode series (yes, American MOVIE Classics TV show), Discovery Channel doing very little discovering and a lot of building from junk, you just can't use reason anymore when it comes to logic and TV networks. Oh, and it won't work on Nick. Too much violence (snicker) for our little ones weaned on X Box, PSP, and PS3 games. They might grow up to be killers (snicker) or even worse, not watch because it's sooo farfetched and unreal.

A cd boxset has been released for "THE OUTER LIMITS". Can "The Rat Patrol" be far behind?

Don't you mean a DVD set of the complete series was released May 13, 2008?

I was hoping to get music CDs, not video DVDs. However, I am planning to buy the DVD boxset, just so I can listen to the soundtrack and the Frontiere music.

Regarding Dominic Frontiere music for "The Rat Patrol" and "The Outer Limits":

I've been a big fan of the original incarnation of "The Outer Limits" since I watched it when it was first run in the 60s (when I was 10 years old). Since then I've watched it as reruns; I've had it on VHS; and now I own all the episodes on DVD. I really like the music on it, and I'm quite familiar with it now. And that means not just the theme music, but also the incidental music played during certain scenes during the episodes.

I'm currently watching episodes of "The Rat Patrol", season 2, on DVD box set. I've noticed a few instances where the incidental music in a scene is actually the same music that was used as incidental music in some episodes of "The Outer Limits". When I was a 13-year old boy watching "The Rat Patrol" I didn't notice that (and really didn't care about that at the time). But now it's kind of a fun discovery.

Overall, I think Dominic Frontiere did some memorable TV show music back in the 60s. And another good example of his music (with a similar feel) is the music he did for the film "Incubus" (1966). "Incubus" was written and directed by Leslie Stevens, who also produced and directed many episodes of the original run of "The Outer Limits". And "Incubus" starred a pre-Star-Trek William Shatner, who also had an "Outer Limits" connection. (Incidently, the dialog in "Incubus" is in Esperanto, with English subtitles. And it seems to me like an Ingmar Bergman film made by the "Outer Limits" people. Worth checking out.)

I also got a kick out of hearing the "Outer Limits" music cues recycled in Rat Patrol episodes; when I saw that Frontiere did the music for both, it made sense.

I was watching an ep the other day and they were sneaking up on someone. During the sneaking up scene the music that was playing was awesome. It started off as the JAWS dun dun, dun dun, dun dun, but then took a different note. When it first started I was thinking JAWS. Who did the music to JAWS?
