Finally coming to DVD - September 2016

The Monroes finally comes to DVD, but as a Walmart exclusive this September 6th at a $19.99 SRP

I didn't see this show when it first aired, (I was born in 1967 6 days after this show aired its final episode), but I used to watch it on Family Channel (now FreeForm) back in the 80s and loved it.

Glad it finally got a DVD release.

I don't know what they have to say. It makes no difference anyway. Whatever it is, I'm against it.

I too was born in 67 but I haven't seen any reruns, so it's all new to me. I just pre-ordered this at Wal-Mart for $13.31, looking forward to seeing it!

I've got mine pre-ordered, too. I haven't seen the show in 30 years, but I really liked it as a teenager in the mid 80s.

It's got Barbara Hershey, in one of her earliest roles before she became a movie star. She was one of the two oldest of the 5 Monroe children and she was still a teenager herself. All 5 had been orphaned and the two oldest had to take care of the 3 smaller kids

It has character actor Ben Johnson who did a lot of westerns, both in movies and on tv, but The Monroes was his only series as a regular, not a guest star.

I also liked Ron Soble as their Indian friend, Jim.

Liam Sullivan plays the rich land owner, Major Mapoy.

The release date of this DVD set, September 06, 2016, is 1 day short of the 50th anniversary of the series premiere (09-07-66).

The premiere date for this series was 1 day prior to Star Trek's 09-08-66 series premiere.

The Monroes aired opposite The Virginian on NBC and the last half of Lost in Space and The Beverly Hillbillies on CBS. Both the Virginian and The Beverly Hillbillies had big ratings, so that's probably why this show only had one season.

Wow this show was up against some stiff competition, that explains a lot. I heard of this through my aunt years ago, I tried finding it for her but no luck, unfortunately she died a few years ago. :(

Thanks for the info, gonna stock up on snacks for the occasion.

Thank you, it's just too bad that they don't release titles like this so the old timers can enjoy these shows once again, now that they have the means to do it.

Well I have now watched the entire season, and I love it! I just wish they had gone on to make more, the way the last episode ended it certainly left it open for more seasons.

It's sad because it is not possible for this kind of show to be made today, a good clean family show full of adventure and struggles that the pioneers faced, they no longer know how to.
