MeTV dropped 'Family Affair', angry

Well, I can get "The Golden Girls", "M*A*S*H" and "Frasier" on five different networks, but the one and only network that carried "Family Affair" now dropped it. I'd say it was just as well, since the morons at KVOS-TV in Bellingham, WA broadcast over its time slot with that religious Joyce Meyer show, but I held out hope. Now I have to see it either on YouTube or buy the DVD collection.

reply

I totally agree. Those other shows get way too much airtime. Friends is on too much as well.

something wicked this way comes . . . .

reply

That does it, I'm buying the entire series on DVD...

reply

I don't get it. ME TV still shows FAMILY AFFAIR in my area. I caught the end of an episode just this morning.

I guess they have different schedules for different parts of the country?

reply

After Friday, METV is not showing it in the DC area at all even on the weekends.

Psalm 46:10

"Be still, and know that I am God."

It's back on at 7am on KVOS channel 30 in BC

reply

Wow, that was fast. That's okay, I just got the entire series on DVD. I am happeh...

reply

Funny, I'm watching it right now on MeTV.

reply

MeTV scheduling runs different in areas. I am still getting Family Affair in the mornings.

reply

Same here. It comes on in the morning now.

reply

I see it here in Los Angeles at 7:00 am M-F.

It's currently the same here in the east too Siriry on at 7AM Monday to Friday . According to the MeTV Schedule this show will be on this Fall Sundays at 7AM . I'm assuming it's September it does not indicate and not sure if it's being removed on the weekdays this fall or not either ---- http://metvnetwork.com/fallforme2013.php ---- . I also checked this on the eastern/pacific times - have not checked the western schedule for this fall .

reply

Yes it does look like it will be removed from weekdays sept 2 so enjoy it while u can. Starting September 8th it will be on 7 and 7:30. Sundays only
Dish/direct and AT&T also seem like they will lose Beaver while the others will be moved to 8am.
Gillian's island and Love Boat will also be added to Sunday line-up
I'm glad I will be getting this show back for Sundays at least it's too bad tho its gone from 5 a week to 2 :(

reply

THANKS for the info ... sounds likes its just Sundays, darn it!

I live in LA area and WAS getting the show till I switched to AT&T
Apparently reg tv and time Warner get the show at 7am but not dish, direct or AT&T
Everything else seems same but family affair was the only show I really cared about since I don't know where else to watch of. Beaver is good but on Netflix and my MEtv still has it at 9am. I saw all the emergencys, Adam 12 and dragnet on antenna tv channel. I really loved seeing family affair

reply

Thanks for the info. I figured Family Affair would be removed yet again. It was removed from MetV for several months and put back on recently and Now I assume to be removed again. I figured with all the ad's for "new" shows coming Sept 2nd they remove others and only the ones people actually like to watch.

MeTV apparently is different depending on cable provider, because I see the local news announces 10 pm news and there is no 10 pm news just Mash or whatever they have in that time slot. I can't recall right now.

reply

That's what's wrong with television today. The same handful of shows are on five or more channels while so many other shows never see the light of day. It's also what I suspect helps drive DVD sales. My local affiliate blocks out 7 to 8am for news (like we need more news) so I finally just popped the $81 for the box set. Now I can watch this fine show any time I want unedited and without interruption.

I have the DVDs in my cart too..I was so happy to see this show back and disappointed it got pulled so fast.
You are right tho. Many shows are ALWAYS on somewhere and on several channels. i had not seen Family Affair since I was little and in watching it again I still like it.
Some shows you have fond memories of and are excited to see them again but when you do its like "meh, its ok but not like I remember" I was really enjoying this one tho.
and after seeing that Miley performance last night I really wanna stick to these old shows. lol

My TV viewing stops around 1993 or so. After that TV just went downhill very fast to me. I watch shows from the 1950's through the 1970's 90% of the time.

well, so much for Sundays for me in September. I could have sworn I saw it was the same for everyone as far as Family Affair but when i checked my on screen guide it was something else for the 8th I check MEtv.com and for some on-air, Dish, Direct and AT&T in my area 6-11am seem to be blocked for Spanish language show, Marketplace and Edgemont ugh. Why do they refuse to to air this show here?
I am planning on getting a small tv and rabbit ears for my room so hop;efully I can watch in there even tho I can't DVR it. But where it seemed some On-Air areas were w/Time Warner for one schedule TW is now by itself. Theres an On-Air in the second grouping withe the satellites and AT&T and another on air grouped with Verizon FIOS.
If my area is in that second grouping I am gonna scream.
I remember when TW changed around their stations Some areas got now got Oxygen in the basic package but because my cable was coming out of an Asian area we got Asian channels and if i wanted Oxygen I had to get digital.

I don't know all the full details, but it has something to do with royalties, paying surviving cast members and so on, as well as how much the show is in demand.

I'm in the south, so Andy Griffith will always have an audience, as well as only about two or three performers (Opie, Thelma Lou, Gomer) are alive, but they don't appear in every episode, so no royalties have to be paid to the actors who aren't alive obviously.

I Love Lucy, the core four are gone, so no royalties there.

It also must have something to do with whether or not the show is in demand.

Golden Girls is all over Hallmark, but three of the major performers are gone. It all has something to do with how much the show is in demand, but some seem to just vanish no matter how popular they may be.

Little Rascals kids are all gone, but they don't seem to be airing anywhere continuously. They must not be popular.

Stooges are all over the place on AMC and elsewhere.

Bonanza is airing just a bit too much, and all four actors are gone.

Everyone is gone from Gunsmoke except for Newely, but he's hardly the star.

When Andy Griffith passed away, I got the strangest impression that the same eight episodes could air over and over and no one would care.

I believe it is the family members and like I love Lucy it is Lucie and Desi Arnaz Jr that receive monies . Gilligan s Island seems to play often and all that is left is the two girls.

-----------------------------------------------------

It was once stated, by Dawn Wells that royalties for reruns of Gilligan's Island ended relatively quick, I want to say after either six weeks, six months or six airings in reruns, can't recall, but it didn't matter.
It was finally divulged that Dawn Wells' husband, who was also her agent, worked out a deal for her to get much better on the royalties deal, that she has never divulged until recently. Even the other cast members didn't know this. In short, it seems she's been cleaning up.

As it is, as you stated, only Tina Louise and Dawn Wells are the only two left, and Louise doesn't seem concerned about anything where GI is concerned.

Sandra Gould, the second Gladys Kravitz on Bewitched, commented when she appeared on Friends about the cast getting $1,000,000 salaries and she said that was unheard of in the Bewitched days.
