Buffy's mouth

I've been watching the reruns on ME TV, and enjoying them. But it seems like Buffy always has a sore around her mouth. Either in the corner, or on her lip. Today's episode, it was on her upper lip.
Any one out there know why? I hope those sores were not due to physical abuse.
