Did the writers EVER refer to family trees or plot anything out?

I've lost count of how many times they used the phrase no living relatives or only living relative when characters discuss Joe, Amy, Tom and Chris! Right there you've got 4 related characters thst we saw on screen not to mention the relatives Joe mentions that didn't appear. Yet someone lazily throws out oh Joe has no living relatives or Chris is Amy's only living relative and the very next episode there's Joe! WTF?

An excuse not to have to drag in new characters.

That's not really my point. The point is you've got 4 people already on the show that are related to each other and yet they keep saying Chris, you're Amy's only living relative....um, what is Joe? Chopped liver? It makes no sense.

I guess they mean immediate family. Instead of dumping Amy at Collinwood.

I used to have this long list of every character that was on the show...EVERY character. It was exhaustive. I'm not sure where it came from but it seemed to be pretty much together and on point.

Swing away, Merrill....Merrill, swing away...
