Waitress Maggie Evans is waitress Norma Jennings from Twin Peaks

The diners from both Dark Shadows (1966) and Twin Peaks (1990) are the same setup and both Maggie and Norma serve pie and coffee to everyone in town. I'm sure it's damn good coffee whether you're in Collinsport, Maine or Twin Peaks, Washington.

reply

Coffee and pie are okay even though I've never seen "Twin Peaks". But does its diner offer delicious New England seafood like the Collinsport Inn? Our very own IMDb member Fletcher wouldn't be eating seafood at the "Twin Peaks" diner (neither would I!) if it didn't offer fresh New England seafood. (LOL!)

reply

Twin Peaks is in landlocked mountain town in Washington, not New England so seafood and fishing are not a major role. The primary wealth lies in logging and hotels. There are some nice waterfalls, however.

Aside from regional and cultural differences such as that, and despite being set in the 1990s, pulls from the 1960s kitsch, including the rock n roll nightclub where cool kids, tough guys, and investigators hang out, get information and start fights from time to time while the rockabilly music plays on.

There's also a wild blond who is bored and gets men to fight over her -- but she dies. Gets dumped into a lake.

Damn straight!

reply

LOL! I knew it, Fletcher. I just knew it!

reply

It pains me to say I'm sitting down to some leftover Gorton's fish sticks right now, but I'm longing for the good stuff.

reply

I know what you mean, Fletcher. I'm guilty of buying and eating those Gorton's fish sticks, myself. But you have the consolation of living in MA so at least you have those fantastic seafood restaurants in your vicinity.

reply

The only stumbling block is the price!

reply

Yeah, but when you can afford it...it's just so worth it! I remember the divine seafood combo platters we had in MA. Whether deep fried or not, it was all so scrumptious!

reply

I'm hankerin for that awesome little place two towns away that serves totally fresh food (they also have it available raw sitting in ice bins) that include great steak fries with the combos. Incredible. I can't leave without spending fifty minimum.

reply

Oh, those steak fries! You just gotta have those glorious steak fries to make the meal complete!!!

reply

And an extra order of fried scallops to buff up the leftovers.

reply

Oh, those fried scallops! Anyone who knows anything about me knows they're my favorite (even unfried). Seconded by fried calamari. Thirded by fried shrimp. We let ourselves go in one restaurant by ordering combo seconds from a very friendly waitress. We were somewhere inland of Boston. Worcester in Central MA? I really don't remember now. We visited many towns that attracted our attention.

It seemed the better seafood restaurants were more towards Eastern MA which makes sense since its closer to the ocean; Boston, South Coast and Cape Cod. That's not to say the food wasn't good in Western MA. We hit some excellent Italian restaurants along the way which was surprising since MA really doesn't have a large Italian community. I must say, the food in MA is overall excellent.

reply

I live in northeastern Mass.
There are a lot of great Italian restaurants in this half of the state. The north end of Boston is famous for their Italian community,
The great food in this area isn't restricted to seafood and Italian. There are a ton of superb Chinese restaurants here and some specialize in great buffets, which are easy on the wallet.

reply

You do have excellent seafood restaurants in Northeastern, MA. I met a woman in MA who said she was from Boston. She had an Italian surname, but also had French and US Indian ancestry. I get a kick out of the Boston accent. It's one thing when you hear actors affecting a Boston accent for movies. But when you're actually in Boston and are hearing the accent for real, it's a whole other experience.

reply

Nobody in movies seems to imitate it properly, but Bill Malloy spoke it naturally.

reply

Did you see "Malice" (1993)? It was filmed in MA. If you saw it, what did you think of Bebe Neuwirth's accent?

reply

I didn't see it, but I'll keep it in mind if I catch it on my cable guide.

reply

In case you ever do see it, let me know what you think about Anne Bancroft's accent, too.

reply

I'll be paying attention.
