I wish they had Two Face and Poison Ivy

Why didit they use Two Face instead of False Face and use Poison Ivy instead of Marsha.

Two-Face was apparently regarded as "too grotesque", and Poison Ivy was only invented in the comics DURING the run of the show, so she had no "history" at that point.

Back in the 60's, kids weren't anymore likely to be traumatized than today, but you always had a handful of "panty-waste" that could be shocked into therapy over little more than a bloody nose! At 8, there was little to nothing that could shock me, but "kid gloves" were apparently used in Hollywood to insure no repercussions to something seen as "over the top!" Hard to believe that bra commercials and ads required the models to wear a shirt or turtleneck underneath as late as '84! Madonna made bras the least a woman could wear up top in '85!  

I read somewhere that Two-Face had been considered with Clint Eastwood playing the role. The studio nixed the idea and reworked the script for another villain.

Ann Margaret would've been great as poison ivy

reply

Tina Louise would have been my choice for Poison Ivy.

"We hadn't really reached out to people," Tucker admits. "We were considering Barbara Eden, maybe, or Ann Margaret. We wanted people who would've been cast in the '60s. Barbara Eden probably more so than Ann Margaret because Ann Margaret was a huge movie star. Raquel Welch, maybe? You know what I mean. That was where we were going. But again, we hadn't gotten that far because we were only in the script stage and it didn't go beyond that. But it would've been cool."

In fairness, False Face is an actual villain from the comics instead of being created for the series like Marsha.

Two Face would have been too dark for this show. Poison Ivy would have been great.

Those villains were created during the 90s films

reply

That's not true. Two Face was created in the 1940s. It's just that around the late 50s they decided he was too scary for the comics. So he wasn't a character in comics when they did the show. He wasn't even in a comic again til the late 60s and it was just for a one shot. He wouldn't be used in comics regularly til the 1970s. Also Poisin Ivy was created well before the 90s too.

Clint Eastwood or William Shatner as Two-Face
Racquel Welch or Ann Marget as Ivy

Bonus: For Scarecrow, then Jeremy Brett

reply

Doh. Scarecrow was created in the 40s but like Two Face was probably considered too dark for kids.

Didn't the cowboy villain Shame (played by Cliff Robertson) use fear gas? So in a sense, he was probably the closest thing to Batman 1966's version of Scarecrow.
