I was sure that Claudia Cardinale was Maria and that Brigit Bardot was the doctor
And for Jeanne Moreau, she was probably one of the girls that follow Bardot. But here on IMDB there is no mention of Cardinale and when I saw the movie it look pretty much like her. Was I that wrong?
It was Les Petroleuse(1971) Sorry they showed both movies back to back on the tele. so I got confused... both western I didn't think that Bardot did that many westerns.
La Bardot also did 'Shalako' with Sean Connery. There is an unforgettable scene where Honor Blackman is forcefed her diamond necklace by an Apache. Very gritty stuff for 1967.
Yes, I got confused about it myself - long before there was IMDB to help me sort it out. I like to add Cat Ballou into the mix and you have three chick-led western comedies I really like.
There are more, like "Bad Girls" with Drew Barrymore and folks, but I think they form a second tier. Some are probably genuine B movies.
Shalako, of course, doesn't qualify beacuse it isn't funny - not even involuntarily.
In another thread here some young lady proposed "Viva Maria" as an example for a feminist movie - seems like a long haul to me, but I won't argue the point.
I actually visited this page to refresh my memory of "Viva Maria", "Les Petroleuses" and "Cat Ballou" to steel myself for the recently released "Bandidas", which sounds like it might be fun, even though the critics seem to agree that the story won't get a literature nobel prize - spoilsports that they are ...
I just got the CD (from Varese Club) and when I showed it to a (very knowledgeable) friend, he CONFIRMED it was "Les Petroleuses" in french! Lol Then my gf came to the rescue saying "No, no, "Les Petroleuses" has la Cardinale in it!" Lol Now I'm off to check "Les Petroleuses", to try to sort out which is which from my memories!
