What Was So Wrong About Singing After a Relative's Death?

Several people reprimanded Johnny for going to a pub, being drunk, and singing too soon after the death of a close relative. Excuse me, but isn't this SOP in Ireland? You have a wake, you drink, you tell stories about the deceased and sing in their honor. There are songs and stories of the same and worse going on at a wake with the deceased still present, let alone after the funeral, as this was. There was a similar scene in My Left Foot (1989) in which the main character, Christy, was reproved for doing the same thing, but in his case the offense wasn't being drunk in a pub after a relative's death but that someone didn't like his singing. The people with him defended him. Perhaps I will simply never understand the Irish!

im just thankful Im not fan of the book.

Why? It's a big two-volume affair...reason enough. I wondered how accurate the movie was to the book. The author did approve of the film and the choice of actor.
